August 26th 2026 · The Wild Dog Challenge
Every coat tells a different story
No two African wild dog coats are ever the same. Yet fewer than 5,000 remain across Africa, making them one of the continent's most endangered carnivores.
This World Wild Dog Day, Rewilding Southern Africa, The Boucher Legacy and Kruger Companion invite everyone who loves Africa's wild places to stand behind this remarkable species.
Together, let's make a difference

Why they matter
African wild dogs can travel more than 50 km in a single day, often moving beyond protected areas where they face threats from snares, habitat loss and disease.
Through its Wild Dog Tracking Programme, The Boucher Legacy — together with SANParks, the Endangered Wildlife Trust and conservation partners — helps monitor packs across the Greater Kruger using tracking collars and near real-time data.
These collars help conservation teams respond quickly when packs are in danger, giving Africa's most endangered carnivore a better chance of survival.
