Buhala Lodge

"Classic elegance meets the wild frontier on the banks of the Crocodile River."

Buhala Lodge is situated just outside the park boundary on the Crocodile River, offering stunning views and easy access to Kruger via the Malelane Gate. It is one of the few places offering guest access to the exclusive Leopard Creek Golf Club.

About Buhala Lodge

Nestled on the scenic banks of the Crocodile River overlooking the Kruger National Park, Buhala Lodge is an intimate, family-run retreat blending classic elegance with the raw beauty of the African wilderness. Known for its exceptional hospitality, fine dining, and exclusive access to Leopard Creek Golf Club, it offers a sophisticated yet relaxed bush escape.

Nestled on the verdant banks of the Crocodile River, Buhala Lodge serves as a premier gateway to one of the world's most iconic wildlife sanctuaries—the Kruger National Park. Overlooking the river's slow-moving waters where herds of elephants, pods of hippos, and sunbathing crocodiles gather, this privately owned and family-run luxury safari retreat offers a highly intimate and personalized bush escape. Here, classic colonial-style elegance merges seamlessly with the untamed spirit of the African wilderness, creating a sophisticated sanctuary where guests can slow down, breathe, and reconnect with nature.

The experience at Buhala is defined by its warm, attentive hospitality. The heart of the lodge is its expansive outdoor veranda, a communal space where guests gather to watch wildlife cross the river or sip sundowners as the sun dips below the horizon. The interior of the lodge is equally inviting, featuring eighteen individually decorated, air-conditioned rooms, a cozy TV room, and a curated gift shop stocked with locally crafted keepsakes.

The lodge features eighteen individually decorated luxury rooms, each offering air-conditioning, tea and coffee stations, and laundry services. Guests can choose between peaceful garden views and direct, uninterrupted vistas over the Crocodile River. The eight Classic Rooms are spacious en-suite sanctuaries located in the tranquil gardens, featuring generous bathrooms with both a bath and a freestanding shower. Two of these classic rooms are custom-designed for families of four, and guests can select either a contemporary open-plan layout or a private, enclosed bathroom design.

Positioned right along the riverbank, the Kruger Park River Rooms are flooded with natural light and feature refined, contemporary finishes that showcase the moving waters. For an elevated experience, the five Kruger Park Balcony Rooms offer private balconies overlooking the Crocodile River and the park, providing the perfect vantage point for early morning birdwatching or spotting elephants gathering at the river's edge.

For guests seeking the ultimate secluded bush escape, the two newly renovated Elephant Suites are set apart from the main lodge. These private sanctuaries boast expansive private decks with their own plunge pools, generous living spaces with elegant furnishings, and large sliding doors that create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The open-plan bathrooms are complete with double basins, baths, indoor showers, and an additional outdoor shower for a truly adventurous African experience.

For golf enthusiasts, Buhala Lodge offers an unparalleled privilege: exclusive access to play a round of golf at the world-famous, exclusive Leopard Creek Golf Club. Normally closed to the general public, guests at Buhala can experience this prestigious championship-level course set against the dramatic, wildlife-rich backdrop of the Kruger landscape. Beyond golf and safaris, guests can indulge in restorative treatments at the tranquil outdoor bush spa overlooking the water, or explore local wonders including the Barberton Geo Trail, the Panorama Route, Elephant Whispers, Skyway Zip Line Trails, Sudwala Caves, and Chimp Eden.
